Electron bunchers for industrial RF linear accelerators: theory and design guide

چکیده

Abstract The acceleration of electrons in resonant linear accelerators (linacs) typically consists three main stages: (1) emission the from cathode and their pre-acceleration with a DC field to energy tens keV; (2) grouping electron beam into bunches synchronization correct phase high-frequency electromagnetic fields, (3) accelerating relativistic required energies. Although many books describe theoretical practical aspects linac design, most them concentrate on physics either gun stage or regime, while leaving description bunching process rather general. non-relativistic motion is described literature ion accelerators, but practice, it cannot be scaled machines due significantly different particle mass rate, velocity change, frequencies. In this tutorial review paper, we will fill gap detailed provide advice design sections industrial-grade linacs.

Introduction to Rf Linear Accelerators

After a short introduction to applications of RF linacs and their advantages and drawbacks as opposed to circular accelerators, the model of RF resonant cavities and their excitation by RF sources or beam is introduced. Then beam dynamics notions, essential to linacs, such as transit-time factor, synchronism, r.m.s. properties, matching and mismatching in linear or nonlinear forces, are presented.

Improved electron collimation system design for Elekta linear accelerators

Prototype 10 × 10 and 20 × 20-cm2 electron collimators were designed for the Elekta Infinity accelerator (MLCi2 treatment head), with the goal of reducing the trimmer weight of excessively heavy current applicators while maintaining acceptable beam flatness (±3% major axes, ±4% diagonals) and IEC leakage dose. Prototype applicators were designed initially using tungsten trimmers of constant thi...

New Applications for Linear Electron Accelerators*

Electron linacs in the 100 MeV to 25 GeV energy range have by now been in operation for periods ranging from one year to over 20 years. In 1951 the Mark III accelerator at Stanford became the first electron linac to exceed an energy of 100 MeV. Since then significant increases in maximum electron energy have been made by the h'Iark III (reaching an energy of 1 GeV in 1960) and SLAC (exceeding 2...

Energy device for monitoring 4-10 MeV industrial electron accelerators

The electron beam energy is one of the critical parameters of electron accelerators since it can affect the dose distribution inside the body or in products to be irradiated with a beam of energetic electrons. A device has been developed for monitoring small variations in the electron beam energy that is easy-to-use during an irradiation run. It involves measurement of currents (or charges) col...

Principles of DC and RF Linear 11 Accelerators

Ancient Greeks and Indians had the conception of atoms. They thought and debated in great lengths about the fundamental constituents of matter. They were limited in what they can do, besides talking, due to the paucity of Particle Accelarators. In the last few decades, this has been rectified. We have many particle accelerators. Particle accelerators are what Feynman described as smashing swiss...
